School attendance
On Monday (22 June), 35,156 children of school age attended Hampshire schools, which equates to around 20% of the total school population. 47% of all children who are open to social care, and 21% of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are in school.

Heatwave
The Met Office has today (24 June) issued a Level 2 Hot Weather Alert for the South East Region. The Executive Member for Public Health, Councillor Judith Grajewski is reminding residents, in particular those with health conditions or who are shielding or self-isolating, to prepare for the hot weather and ensure that they and those they care for have adequate food and medication at home. Public Health England has published a guide which contains advice on staying safe during hot weather and Covid-19.

Resident communications and campaigns
Your Hampshire - Hampshire County Council has issued the latest edition of Your Hampshire to over 6,000 Hampshire subscribers. The regular e-newsletter aims to keep residents informed and up to date with the latest news from the County Council. During the Covid-19 pandemic it has highlighted key service changes.
HWRCs - The County Council’s HWRCs re-opening campaign went live on Facebook and Twitter on 11 May, and on radio (The Breeze, Heart, SAM and Wave) from 27 May to 16 June. Initially the campaign focused on promoting social distancing and considerate queueing at HWRCs. From 11 June the campaign raised awareness of the new online booking system, which started on 15 June. The radio campaign reached over 600,000 people per week, while the social media adverts have been shown over 375,000 times (impressions) and have received over 6,450 clicks.
Road safety - A road safety campaign to discourage speeding started on 8 May and will close on 2 July. This follows concerns raised by the public about speeding during lockdown, and national news coverage on this topic. The County Council are sponsoring the travel updates on Capital South Coast and are also using website adverts targeting Hampshire adults, placed via Google. The radio advert reaches over 250,000 people every weekday morning, and again in the evening, while the website adverts have been shown over 440,000 times.
Mental health - The mental health and wellbeing communications and marketing plan has been live for nine weeks and has focussed on both universal messages and target groups who may be experiencing particular challenges due to Covid-19. Target groups included adults and children who may have been bereaved during the pandemic. The social media campaign targeted at adults experiencing bereavement or supporting others had 2,595 impressions on Twitter and reached 5,809 people on Facebook, with the second Twitter post gaining 4,445 impressions. The social media campaign targeted at parents and carers supporting a child who has been bereaved had 2,595 impressions and reached 5,809 people on Facebook.

Local Covid-19 data
The Local Government Association’s LG Inform produced the below Covid-19 tracker using Public Health England data. The LG Inform reports show both the current data for authorities, as well as data over time. The information has also been combined with population data, to create a rate per 100,000 people and demonstrate relative rates of infection between authorities.

Easing of lockdown restrictions

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, delivered a statement to the House of Commons on Covid-19 yesterday (23 June) outlining further changes to lockdown measures in England. In summary, from Saturday 4 July certain businesses including pubs, restaurants and hairdressers will be able to re-open, providing they adhere to Covid Secure guidelines. From the same date, two households will be able to meet up in any setting with social distancing measures, and people will be able to holiday in England with the reopening of accommodation sites. Some leisure facilities and tourist attractions may also reopen, including: libraries, places of worship, community centres, outdoor gyms and playgrounds, cinemas, museums, galleries, theme parks and social clubs. In addition, it was announced that in circumstances where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, guidance will allow people to keep a social distance of ‘one metre plus’.

Holiday Activities and Food programme
The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that the £9m Holiday Activities and Food programme will support up to 50,000 disadvantaged children across 17 local authority areas over the summer. The Romsey School is one of 10 co-ordinators receiving a share of the £9 million across 17 local authorities.

Early years and childcare providers
The DfE has updated the guidance for childcare services early years settings to reflect that early years providers are now able to open for all children and to provide additional information on protective measures.

The DfE has published the latest data on attendance in education and early years settings, up to 18 June. DfE estimate that 12.2% of pupils (1,160,000) attended education settings on 18 June, up from 9.1% on 11 June. Approximately 92% of settings were open in some capacity on 18 June, the same as on 11 June.

Shielding guidance to be eased
The Government has announced that they have updated the guidance for people who are shielding, so that from Monday 6 July, people who have been shielding can:
- meet in a group of up to 6 people outdoors, including people from different households, while maintaining strict social distancing
- no longer need to observe social distancing with other members of your household
- single adult households can form a ‘support bubble’ with one other household following the same rules already in place for the wider population
From Saturday 1 August, the Government will be advising that shielding will be paused, but people are advised to maintain strict social distancing. Support will remain available from NHS volunteers and local councils. From this date:
- those who need to work and cannot do so from home will be able to return to work providing their workplace is Covid secure
- children can return to their education settings if they are eligible and in line with their peers
- it will be possible to go outside to buy food, to places of worship and for exercise

Sepsis test for Covid patients
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory has announced that Ploughshare Innovations has funded the development of a test that can predict whether Covid-19 patients will develop Sepsis before symptoms appear.

The Government has announced £105 million will be made available to provide interim housing for rough sleepers and those at risk of rough sleeping.

Travel to work The Office for National Statistics has published contextual data on Covid-19 travel to work patterns from the Census and Annual Population Survey. It provides data on method of travel to work and distance of travel to work split by industry sectors and workplace location.

As of 4pm on 23 June, the total number of lab-confirmed cases was 306,210. The daily number of lab-confirmed cases was 874. The total number of Covid-19 associated deaths was 42,927, with 171 new deaths reported on the day. The data is available to view online.
