Basingclog Morris, your local Northwest Morris side, is inviting new dancers to come along to their autumn practice season. Practices will be held on Tuesdays at 8 pm in Sherfield on Loddon Village Hall, starting on 19 September.

Basingclog offers music, fresh air, dancing, laughter and friendship in equal measure and a chance to be part of something worthwhile. Practice season lasts throughout the autumn and winter months, and during the summer months, you can find us dancing at local pubs, fetes and festivals.

Morris is a traditional form of English dancing that has been performed for hundreds of years. Basingclog Morris perform the North West style of Morris dancing. Many of our dances originated some 300 years ago in and around the cotton mills in the North of England, and we have written our own dances to further the living tradition.

Basingclog’s costume of black, white and red is designed to complement the style of North West Morris dancing, giving a bright and colourful display.  We believe in dancing to entertain, and we are renowned for the energy and enthusiasm we put into our dances, and for the volume of noise generated by our band.

We’re a mixed side with male and female dancers. Beginners are welcome at any time, and you don’t need any previous experience to learn Morris dancing.
