In Memoriam: Former Cllr. John Ferguson

It was with much sadness that Bramley Parish Council learnt of the passing of John Ferguson during the early hours of Monday morning.  Bramley Parish Council would like to pass on our thoughts and condolences to John’s family and friends.  John Ferguson has contributed much to our village of Bramley and will be sorely missed.

Towards the end of John’s working life, he had been living in Buckinghamshire whilst working in Northwest London.  Having been born in Basingstoke, he met a few people from the area and decided to look around for somewhere to live.   During the 1980’s he found a place in a new small development being built in Jibbs Meadow, in the village of Bramley.

No sooner had John settled in he was elected to the Bramley Parish Council and remained a Parish Councillor for some 15 years, much of that time as Parish Council Chairman.   John has also been Chairman of the Clift Meadow Trust and President of the Bramley and District Royal British Legion.  John was instrumental in saving the Bramley and District Royal British Legion from closing and has contributed to its continuing growth. 

Outside of Bramley, John was also Chairman of the Monk Sherborne Horticultural Society and achieved success at both the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower shows.

John had served in the Army from 1946 to 1962 leaving with the rank of Captain.  He then went on to join the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry, a Territorial Regiment. He served with them until 1982 and retired in the rank of Colonel.  On leaving the Army in 1962, John joined Guinness Brewing at Park Royal in London and remained with them until retiring in 1993.

Bramley Parish Council would once again like to take this opportunity thank John Ferguson for his many years of service for his country and community.
